I did it! 21 days of no cheats and no joke balls to the wall focus on nutrition. I’m proud I completed it because it was pretty intense!

After completing the original 21 Day Fix, I was excited to take the game up with 21 Day Fix Extreme, and I can definitely say both the workouts and the nutrition stepped it up to extreme level. I reviewed the workouts & nutrition program already, so this post will just be my results pictures and final thoughts on the program.
I am at the point in my fitness journey where I am tweaking my results, so I vary from heavy lifting programs to body weight only, to things like 21 Day Fix which combine both. One of the great things about Beachbody programs is that there really is one for whatever your goal may be.
I always track my results pictures by using my last ‘after’ photo…not an old sloppy before pic from years ago. So yeah, you won’t see any mopey sad faces in my before photos either, because I’m usually pretty proud of any gains I made in my fitness. I think it is the most fair way to show my progress. You won’t see any jaw dropping transformations here, but you will see how the type of workouts you do affect your body. For instance, my before (top row) photos are my ‘after’ photos from completing Body Beast. I stay a pretty consistent weight at this point, but I built muscle during this program. My after photos for 21 Day Fix Extreme are a great example of what the program is supposed to do. By following the nutrition guide and workouts, my body leaned out a bit. I actually didn’t lose a single pound in the three weeks I followed the program but my frame is thinner.

I would definitely recommend this program to anyone who is interested in leaning out and learning how the foods that they eat affect their body. I didn’t experience super crazy results because I have been eating clean for a long time now and working out 6-7 days a week for years. My biggest result from completing this program actually came in the form of knowledge regarding my nutrition. I followed the “Countdown to Competition” meal plan, which uses carb depletion for two days, and then a normal day every third day (normal for me was two servings of carbs). I thought this would be the best way to get CUT but to be honest, I didn’t have much energy to push as hard as I wanted in my workouts. It is so important to listen to your body, so sometimes I would need to grab a couple slices of apple or some dried apricots before I did my workout to give me a little carb push to get through. I don’t prefer to train this way, but fitness is a personal journey to everyone. I am excited to get back into my normal eating pattern, but I did learn some great new recipes by embarking on this journey. I happen to be obsessed with cauliflower now. The 21 Day Fix (original or extreme) is honestly the BEST way I have used to learn exactly what my body needs to perform and look the best that it can. While the “Countdown to Competition” meal plan is not sustainable for me (or anyone for an extended period of time) it was a fantastic tool to learn more about my personal nutrition needs. It felt a bit like a science experiment and I personally loved that.
Some folks train to be thin, some folks train to be strong, others train to maintain a healthy body and don’t really care what it looks like in the end. Some folks train for a bit of all of this. ALL OF THESE GOALS ARE FANTASTIC. The key is to find what makes you feel the most awesome inside and keeps you moving for all of your days on this earth.
So, 21 days of carb depletion in the books…what next?
Just kidding, well kind of. I definitely drank that. But INSANITY MAX:30 is next (with a little P90X3 and PiYo tossed in there too). I can’t wait!
